The State Environment Taskforce has called for collaboration between it and the Warri South Covid-19 Taskforce team to deepen awareness of the Corona virus disease and ensure cooperation and compliance of the public to necessary hygienic practises.

In a meeting at the Governor's office annex Monday, the State Environment Taskforce outlined a series of measures to be taken to compel Deltans to respect health rules.
Among them are enforcing the use of face mask and provision of hand wash systems in public places across the state.

State Chairman of the Taskforce, Honorable Sylvester Oromoni at the meeting complained that Covid-19 in Delta State has reached the level of community spread, an indication that more people were getting the disease and that it was being spread widely and rapidly.

Speaking through the Senoir Special Assistant on Special Duties to the Governor, Honorable Igho Akpojotor, the State Taskforce Chairman called for unity among stakeholders to help stem the spread of Covid-19 in Delta State pointing out that State Taskforce was willing to work with the Warri South local Government team to ensure success.

'This taskforce has enormous powers and responsibilities', he stated, adding that those who refuse to use their face mask appropriately will be arrested and prosecuted.

'it is not enough to have your face mask and put it in the pocket waiting to spot security operatives before wearing it, you must wear it at the right time, in the right place and correctly too and not on your chin or your head, he said.

According to him, when people are in crowded places they should use their face mask to cover their mouth and nose properly so they do not get or transmit the virus.

Explaining further, he said, ' you cannot see the virus, but it follows droplets from the mouth or nose when we breath, talk, sing, shout, cough or sneeze'.

He stated that the application of proper personal hygiene by all will also help to reduce or stop the spread of the killer virus disease.

Adding, the State Taskforce Chairman said public places including where people go to purchase food and other such outlets will henceforth need to provide their hand sanitizing facilities to ensure that people imbibe the new habit of regular hand washing.

He said the state taskforce will Synergise with the Warri South Taskforce and similar stakeholders to check and enforce the order.

For his part, the Senior Special Assistant on Environment, Honorable Peter Abugewa said the meeting was timely and constructive.

He observed the need for more sensitisation and enlightenment to create awareness about the Corona virus and measures against it, explaining that offenders will be prosecuted.

Also speaking, the State Taskforce coordinator for Delta Central and South Comrade Kingsley Iweka expressed happiness that the Warri South Covid-19 Taskforce team was ready to partner with the Taskforce in ensuring environmental cleanliness and general sanity in the area.

He assured of cooperation with the committee to move the State forward.

The Warri South Covid-19 Taskforce leader Honorable Elvis Okpako Eboh commended the State Environment Taskforce for the job done so far in ridding Delta State of filth and enforcing compliance to Sanitation laws.

He explained that the Warri South team was set up by the Council Chairman Dr. Mike Tidi to help drive the vision of a Corona virus free area by enforcing the necessary regulations and assisting in checking the spread of the disease in the area.

Secretary of the committee, Comrade Christopher Agbajoh in his remarks expressed readiness of their team to learn from and work with the State Environment Taskforce noting that with collaborative efforts Delta State will bring the cases of covid-19 to the barest minimum.

The Warri South Covid-19 Taskforce management committee has eight other members apart from the Chairman and Secretary.
