Address Issues Raised By Protesters, Obanor Urges FG.
The National Co-ordinator/ Chairman of the Nigerian Youths Movement for Good Governance (NYMGG) Mr Imaren A. Obanor has commended youths across the country for embarking on protest nation wide against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
He made this assertion yesterday in his office while addressing a team of journalists. He Stated that the Special Anti- Robbery Squad (SARS) has been involved in extra-judicial killings of youths across the country, noting that the duty of security operatives was to protect the citizens.
Mr Obanor noted that Police brutality being one of the reasons for the protest had reached an alarming proportion adding that the Federal Government should do something to address the menace.
His words "the protest that is on-going across the country against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and Police brutality generally is a welcomed development. The Law made provisions for peaceful protests by an individual or group of persons when necessary. What is remarkable about the protest embarked upon by the Nigerian youths is the fact that a lot of prominent and well meaning Nigerians within and outside are supporting the protest.
There is no justifiable reason why any security outfit set up by government and paid from taxpayers money to protect its citizens should turn around and kill the citizens. It is unacceptable. I therefore commend the youths for protesting against this menace and I am sure that the Federal Government has got the message.
The NYMGG National Co-ordinator/ Chairman commended the Federal Government for restraining security agencies from attacking the protesters across the country. While condemning the killings of some protesters in some parts of the country by the Police. He charged government at the State and Federal levels to investigate the killings of these persons and prosecute offenders accordingly.
According to him, the youths in the country had become frustrated as a result of unemployment, bad economy and maladministration and earnestly had decided to take their destiny in their own hands.
