Sheriff U-17 Unity Football Tournament Reveals More Talents - As Teams Get More Dexterous By Each Match
By Dr. Godwin Orhadahwe
More teams in the ongoing Sheriff Oborevwori U-17 Unity Football Cup Competition for Delta Central Senatorial District, have started showcasing talented, dexterous, and more purposeful football players, as more matches are being played each weekend.
The football contest, powered by Arthur Fedinand Limited, featured its 12th and 13th matches at the weekend with Team Udu squiring up with Team Ethiope East on Saturday on Ovwian Police station football field, producing three goals in favour of the Udu LGA team.
The opening goal was scored by Perese Precious, while the 2nd goal was by Samuel Blessing both of Team Udu LGA, in the first half. A few minutes into the 2nd half, Daniel Ochuko of Team Udu scored the 3rd goal.
Although the Team Ethiope East players demonstrated more improvements in the 12th match than in their previous encounters, they still could not score any goal.
Team Ughelli North took on Team Ughelli South on Sunday on the Edjophe Primary School field, with Team Ughelli North beating Ughelli South by 2 goals to nothing. The players of each team demonstrated equal skills, stamina and eagerness to win that match.
Omonihwofa Martins got the opening goal for Ughelli North in the first half, while Efe Ogheneruona scored the second goal for Ughelli North in the second half. The coaches for both sides did their best to ginger their players, making the match more interesting but Ughelli South failed to find the net.
Meanwhile, all match officials, the medical team, and the LOC members led by their Chairman, Ex-international Super Eagles player Edema Fuludu, MON, ably supported by his Vice, Victor Odiare, were all on ground as usual.
The LOC Chairman, however, expressed dissatisfaction with some officials for not being proactive ahead of matches, causing delays in the opening formalities - checking of licences, medical tests, warm up; and lining up for checks by the referees before the match begins.
The tournament table as at Sunday 14th September 2025, shows that Ughelli North is leading with 9 points from 4 matches, winning 3 and losing one.
Team Udu is second with 7 points from 3 games, including 2 wins and a draw, and has not conceded any goals.
Ethiope East and Ethiope West are tied in the 3rd position on 6 points, both with 2 wins; 2 losses for Ethiope East, and one loss for Ethiope West.
Ughelli South and Uvwie occupy the 4th place, both having 4 points from 3 games, each with a win, a draw and a loss.
In the 5th position is Team Sapele with one point from 2 games, still searching for a win.
Team Okpe is still at the bottom of the table with no points from 4 matches and a goal difference of -12, having conceded 14 goals.
Two more matches will be played this weekend. Team Ethiope West will be home against Team Sapele on Saturday 20th September at Oghara Township Stadium, while teams Uvwie and Ughelli South will slog it out at Ekpan Police Field on Sunday the 21st. Both matches will kick off at 3pm each day.
