WUEDA DG Charges Youths in Delta State to Acquire Quality Education for Sustainable Development.
The Director General of Warri, Uvwie and Environs Devt Agency, WUEDA, Crown Prince Godwin Ejinyere has charged youths in Delta State to avail themselves of quality western education to enable them succeed in their future endeavors.
The WUEDA DG, represented by his Senior Media Aide, Dr. Godwin Orhadahwe, gave the charge at Orerokpe on Thurs. 2nd Nov. 2023, while speaking at the grand finale of the National Youth Week celebration, organized by the Okpe chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, to mark this year's edition of International Youth Day.
Hon. Ejinyere, the Duke of Orerokpe District, and former Chairman of Okpe Local Govt, described education as the bedrock of sustainable development. He urged the youths to take their studies seriously if they desire to enjoy better life in the future.
He advised all youths who lack the capacity for cognitive education to opt for vocational or skills acquisition training in line with the current socio-economic dynamics of the Nigerian society. Hon. Ejinyere also advised the youths to shun cultism, drug abuse, political thuggery, and all forms of violence and immoral acts that are inimical to their growth and development.
He said urban communities in Okpe LGA which form part of the environs of the Oil City of Warri and Uvwie, fall under WUEDA's mandate areas, therefore, the Agency shall extend its plan and development activities to such communities. He appealed to the youths to work with the Agency so that it can achieve the goal and objectives of the State Govt for the area.
In his welcome address, the Okpe chapter Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Comrade Victor Udjor urged Govt at all levels to address the challenges facing Nigerian youths through youth-focused initiatives and community support, to create a more favorable environment for the sustainable development and empowerment of Nigerian youths.
Also speaking, the Delta State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Comrade Kenneth Okorie called for more participation by youths in public dialogues and programmes for their personal development. He charged Local Govt and other stakeholders to intervene in youth training towards making them self employed, urging the youths to key into available opportunities.
In their separate lectures, Miss Oghenerume Igho Juliana and Mr. Adjari Joseph both agreed that education is not a scam but a very important activity that must be taken seriously by all youths. They commended Chief Edward Ederaine for donating books, writing materials amongst others to basic schools in Okpe Kingdom, and called on parents and other stakeholders in development to identify critical needs of children at their formative stages and follow them up from primary school to the university.
Representatives of the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, Orhue the 1, and the Chairman of Okpe Local Govt, Hon. Isaiah Esiovwa enjoined the youths to shun all forms of crime and social vices, while Chief Edward Ederaine commended the youth Exco for organizing the public lecture titled "Education no be scam: Catch them young," urging all participants to spread the news to the grassroots for maximum gains.
Highlights of the event were the presentation of awards to and decoration of Chief Mrs. Mary Agidotan Agouye, Dr. Mrs Augustina Erha, and Chief Edward Ederaine as Patron and Matrons of the Youth Council, as well as group photographs by all participants.
